Fort hero began as a dream is now becoming a reality. The following people were a key to that dream becoming a reality.

Vice President
Al Sanders has risen through the rank of the local and state American Legion to become State Vice Commander and Vice Chairman of the Distinguished Guest Committee for the National Headquarter. He has served as a National Delegate for the American Legion 8 years in a row. He has received awards for top Area Commander for the state of LA, Top District Vice Commander, Top District in State and the MLK Trailblazer Award. He serves as President of the Northeast LA Veterans Association (American Legion, DAV, AmVet, Purple Heart, VFW and Am Fleet). His motto is: “If I do the service of God and help His people my reward will be greater”.

• 2012-2013 -State commander for the American Legion from 2012-2013
• 2010-2012 State Vice Commander for the Sons of the Legion
• 2011-2013 National Membership Chairman for the Southern Regional of the United States of America
• 2005-2012 - National Security Chairman and Public Information Chairman
Gary Littleton was born February 16, 1951 and grew up in Downsville La. He graduated from Downsville High School in 1970. Gary married Elizabeth Diane Gilmore in July 24, 1971; the same year he joined the US Air force. In 1977 Gary enlisted in US Army where he served until 1983.
Gary has been physically disabled due to injuries suffered while serving in the military, and in 1990 he entered Delta Ouachita Technical School under a VA program designed to train disabled veterans for new jobs. He graduated with honors as a draftsman-designer in 1993. He was on the Dean’s List every semester.
Gary is a family man (3 children, 8 grandchildren, and 1 great grandson) who understands what it means to help others, he is a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans, serving as a Department of Louisiana, Second Junior Vice Commander and service officer. Gary donates numerous hours every year to help other veterans get the recognition and compensation they deserve.

George Anzelmo serves as treasurer of the North East Louisiana Veterans Association. As a result of his dedication and tireless efforts to the organization, the Fort Hero Veterans Barracks is now on a fast track to completion.
